Who we are and what we do
We are responsible for the planning and securing of health services and improving the health of the 203 000 people who live in the borough of Swindon and in Shrivenham. We make sure there are enough General Practitioners (GPs) and that they are accessible to you.
Patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we continue to drive out inequalities in health and wellbeing; drive up service quality and access to care and give people more influence, choice and control over their lives.
NHS Swindon employs around 1,000 staff, which fulfils part of our aim to provide high service quality and access to care to people in their local communities.
We provide a wide range of other health services including dentists, mental health care, walk-in centre, out-of-hours service, NHS Direct, pharmacies, opticians, stop smoking service and other support services for our local population.
We are also responsible for integrating health and social care, so the two systems work together for our patients.
